Silent Gliss Curtain Tracks: What Makes Them Worth It

Silent Gliss has been making curtain tracks in Switzerland since 1952. That longevity is not an accident. They built a reputation on engineering systems that are genuinely quiet, genuinely reliable, and genuinely worth the money — and they have spent the last seven decades defending it.

We have been selling Silent Gliss at Discount Electric Curtains since around 1986. That is four decades of installing these systems into homes across the UK, handling customer questions, seeing what lasts and what does not. We know the range well.

What actually makes them silent

The name is not marketing. Silent Gliss tracks are quiet because of how they are engineered, not because someone decided to call them that. The gliders are precision-machined to run with minimal friction. The extruded aluminium profiles are designed so the gliders travel in a controlled channel, not rattling loose as they do on budget tracks. On the electric models, the motors are specifically selected for low noise output.

The difference is noticeable. Run a finger along the track of a well-made Silent Gliss system and you will feel the smoothness before you hear it. That is the point.

The Autoglide 5100 — the residential workhorse

The Autoglide 5100 is the track we fit most often in homes. It covers spans up to 6 metres, mounts on the ceiling or wall, and handles bay windows without needing a separate solution. The motor is integrated into the track and is quiet enough for bedroom use.

Control options include remote control, wall switches, and a built-in Touch&Go function that lets you nudge the curtain by hand and the motor takes over — useful if you are standing right next to the window. You can also run it on a timer, which is how most of our customers set it up.

  • Spans up to 6 metres
  • Ceiling or wall mount
  • Bay window compatible
  • Remote, timer, and Touch&Go control
  • Quiet enough for bedrooms

It is the right track for the vast majority of residential installations. If you have a standard room with standard-weight curtains, this is what you want.

The 5600 — heavy loads and long runs

The 5600 is a different category of track. It handles spans up to 25 metres and carries curtains up to 150kg. That is not a domestic specification — it is commercial, hospitality, or very large residential spaces such as full-height glazing and open-plan living areas.

The 5600 integrates with Silent Gliss's Move Server, which means app control and voice assistant compatibility out of the box. It is also built to run continuously in commercial environments where a residential motor would fail within months.

  • Spans up to 25 metres
  • 150kg load capacity
  • App and voice control via Move Server
  • Built for commercial use

If you are fitting a hotel, a large office, or a home with floor-to-ceiling glazing across a wide span, the 5600 is what you need.

Beyond electric tracks

Silent Gliss also makes manual tracks, wave curtain systems, and roller blinds. Their manual tracks are used in luxury hotels and high-end residential projects precisely because the quality is consistent with the electric range — same gliders, same profile engineering, none of the motorisation cost.

Wave curtain systems use a corded or motorised track with evenly spaced gliders that create a uniform ripple across the fabric. It is a specific look, increasingly popular in contemporary interiors, and Silent Gliss do it properly.

If you are also looking at window coverings beyond curtains, we stock Silent Gliss roller blinds alongside the track range.

Why buy from a specialist

Silent Gliss products are available from various sources, but specification, sizing, and motor selection matter. The wrong track for a bay window, or a motor undersized for the curtain weight, will cause problems. We have been fitting these systems for forty years and we know where the easy mistakes are made.
